Ricardo Salinas Pliego praises Bitcoin in an interview with CT in the highest tones.
Ricardo Salinas Pliego, the chairman of the Grupo Salinas group and also the second richest man in Mexico, revealed in an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph that he had already invested in Bitcoin in 2013 when the crypto currency was still at 200 US dollars. In retrospect, the billionaire now describes this as his “best investment ever”.
Pliego held the Bitcoin it bought at the time until the record run in 2017, after which it sold at a market value of 17,000 US dollars. He then invested again in the crypto market leader at lower prices.
“You keep coming back to the crime scene,” as he jokes in this context
Salinas has now invested 10% of his portfolio in BTC, although he does not want to sell his crypto assets anytime soon.
“I’ll wait another five to ten years,” said the CEO.
Although he was originally interested in Bitcoin as a means of payment, Salinas now sees the much greater potential in the function of cryptocurrency as a store of value.
Especially in Latin American countries, where the national currencies are rapidly losing value due to inflation, this property would have considerable added value
“What is happening in Venezuela and Argentina, where the national currencies are downright collapsing, is a scandal. That should open our eyes to the problems that fiat currencies bring with them, ”he says with dismay.
In addition, Salinas sees Bitcoin as the next natural evolutionary step for money, which is transitioning from physical to digital.
“Bitcoin consists only of bits and bytes, but the good thing is that it cannot be devalued and is difficult to confiscate,” as Salinas says.
